Living with Beauty

West Bedroom Gallery

The twelve works in this exhibition represent a small selection from a significant private collection in North Carolina. Carefully assembled over a period of more than two decades, the collection includes works on paper by some of the most important American artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries including John Singer Sargent, Robert Henri, Everett Shinn, and Maurice Prendergast. Works of art in the exhibition range from classical figure studies to elegant portraits and from expressive landscapes to quiet marine scenes. Created with consummate skill, these intimate studies call to mind the gestures of the artist’s hand, connecting us as viewers to creative acts executed a century ago.
