DescriptionLandscape plan created by Thomas Sears shows the planting plan of the forecourt at Reynolda House. After the initial phase of site development in 1912, Katharine Reynolds selected Thomas W. Sears (1880-1966) of Philadelphia to be the principal landscape architect for Reynolda. Sears’ first plans for Reynolda’s gardens and landscaping date from 1915. The association of Sears and Reynolda would continue into the 1930s when Mary Reynolds Babcock hired him to revise the landscape.
ProvenanceHistoric Architectural and Landscape Drawings Collection was created when Reynolda House Museum of American Art established its Archives in 1993. Originally part of Reynolds Family Papers, the bulk of which was given to Wake Forest University and the Baptist Historical Collection (now WFU Special Collections and Archives) by Nancy Susan Reynolds on 15 May 1976 and 22 February 1982. Collection was transferred to Reynolda House Museum of American Art when the Archives was established in March 1993.
