The Carolina Summer Music Festival returns with a celebration of the global eclecticism of composer Fritz Kreisler (pictured above). Kreisler remains a legendary musician not only for his incredible technique and musicianship on the violin, but for his numerous violin and piano duos, many of which are important staples and encore pieces in the repertoire today. Kreisler drew inspiration from many sources: Viennese traditional dances, 18th century Arabic-Spanish "Gypsy" sounds and flair, and international styles such as the tango and Irish folk music. Composers from the Baroque era such as Martini and Pugnani also inspired him, as did ragtime music for his "Syncopation." And yet through all of these pieces, he maintains a unique compositional voice, particularly with his rich and colorful harmonies and playful counterpoint in the piano.
