Portals of Discovery

Portals of Discovery is the continuing education program offered by the museum in its role as a community learning center. The courses engage students in a range of subjects, emphasizing interdisciplinary experiences that make connections between American art forms, history and contemporary life. Faculty members design courses with three goals:
- To initiate students in techniques of art, creative writing, music, drama, and dance
- To investigate art history, material culture, literature, philosophy, and subjects in general history
- To provide guidance in problem-solving techniques for business, health, and lifestyle.
The social aspect of learning is another aspect of the continuing education experience. Portals of Discovery courses attract talented instructors from area universities and the community and draw people together in a welcoming and stimulating intellectual environment that results in lasting relationships among students, instructors, local institutions, and Reynolda House.
