Course: Echoes of Eden: Symbolism of the Garden in Art, Music, and Literature - CANCELED

Sunday, February 7, 2010, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELED.

Starting with the Garden of Eden, gardens have been a favorite setting for stories, paintings, poetry, and musical compositions. This course, taught by David Schildkret, visiting scholar at the Salem College School of Music, examines a wide range of examples, from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and paintings by Leonardo, Botticelli, Renoir, and Glackens, to the operas of Mozart and Wagner, exploring the ways artists make use of the garden and why it is such a potent metaphor.

February 7, 14, 21, 28, 2:30–4:30 p.m.
